January 3rd DCWG Meeting

January 3rd is the next scheduled day for a DCWG meeting. This is the first Saturday in January. The meeting information is as follows:

Date: Saturday, January 3, 2009
Time: 1pm to 3pm
Place: Herndon Fortnightly Library - Meeting Room 1

I put down that we would have five people attending, so I hope a couple more people will be able to come this time. After this meeting I'll see about scheduling the next one if the Herndon library is okay with everyone. If people would rather do Panera, then we can switch back to that.

Site Update and DCWG Meeting

Added a critique questionnaire to the resources page. I found it over at the Nano Forums. Please feel free to leave suggestions if you think additional questions should be added, or something doesn't fit the section it's in.

Also, if you have links or ideas for other resources to be included, please let me know!

Reminder

DCWG December Meetings

DCWG will begin holding meetings every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month. For December that will be the 6th and the 20th. Please see below for more information.

I am looking into alternatives to meeting at Panera, will post more about that and send something out to the list as well when I get some info together. There is also some discussion about holding meetings on a week night on the 2nd and 4th week for people who can't make the weekend meets. I plan to post about that to the list and see who would be interested and what night would work for people. The week night meetings would probably start in January.

Reston Write-in

We'll be at the Reston Town Center Panera tonight from around 7 to closing. Hope to see some of you there!

Site Update

I've added a link to the Name Generators section of the Resources page. It's actually a list of names, and therefore technically not a generator, but it was the best place to put it. It's a list done up from names off of spam emails. Hope you enjoy!

Write-ins

The write-in Saturday at Panera was good. I actually got some writing done and enjoyed a hot chocolate.

Tonight (Mon. 11/10/08) we're going to be at the Reston Town Center Panera again, from around 6:30 or 7:00 until closing time.

Kristin called the library, and they're booked for the next two Saturdays. Apparently they're more popular than we thought. So we're planning on being at the Panera in the Reston Town Center instead.

NaNo Goodies

Hello everyone! NaNo is now officially underway. The kick off in Fairfax was a lot of fun and there were tons of new people! I don't think I remember any of their names. *smile* I did manage to ge some writing done though. And I had a hot chocolate. The goodie bags that the ML's handed out are awesome by the way! If you didn't get one please let Kristin know! I'm sure she'd be happy to bring one to you at another write-in.

Today I have added a new page to the site called NaNo Goodies. There you will find some LJ icons and a calendar wallpaper that I did up today with Dan's help. If you have ideas for other icons, wallpapers, or something else creative like - feel free to send me an email and let me know! I'm going to try and make up some more stuff to go on the page. Probably should have been working on this kind of stuff before November, huh?

NoVa Kickoff Party

The NoVa Kickoff Party is this weekend, so I wanted to post that information here. Yes, this is probably redundant and I don't know if anyone actually reads this, but maybe one day they will.

There are tentative plans for dinner afterwards at the TGIFriday's which is in the same complex. We'll probably decide that once the write in is over and then whoever wants to heads over for dinner.

Email list

DCWG now has an email list through Google Groups. You can sign up on the main page of the site, or visit the group's page on Google. We're going to use the email list in conjunction with our meetings, so that we can have a more active group - especially during our off weeks.

Pre-Nano Meetup

Yesterday we had our first Reston meetup for Nano over at the Panera in the town center. I personally declare it a success! There were four of us there who worked on the plots for our novels, and another friend showed up for moral support. Sadly we didn't have any new people appear, hopefully there will be some at the first meetup on the 8th of November. I think if we can get at least five or six of us we can justify the normal size meeting room at the library.

Next week is the kickoff party in Fairfax, hope to see you there!

For NaNoWriMo:
Meeting time: 1pm to 3pm

Meeting date: Every Saturday for the month of November - Except for the first Saturday (Nov. 1st) as there is a kickoff scheduled in Fairfax. So our meeting dates for November would be the 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th.

Calendar Update

Kristin has updated the calendar with the various meetups throughout Northern VA for NaNoWriMo. Be sure to check it out and see if there's anything you can make it to!

Update

The resources page has been updated with some links to screenwriting programs. I also managed to find a few more progress meters and added those as well.

Site Update

Updated the resources page with some free writing software. I've used both q10 and Open Office, both are decent for writing, although Open Office is more of an office suite of packages than just a writing program. I haven't used yWriter4 before, but from what I gather it sounds loosely similar to Microsoft OneNotes. If anyone has used it, please feel free to post what you think about the program. If you know of any other free writing software that I should add to the site, let me know.

Site Updates

Hello, I've been updating the site this morning. I've added Kristin and Dan to the authors page, as well as adding a resources page and the Nano Dares. On the resources page you'll find links to helpful writing tools such as progress meters, and nano spreadsheets. I've also added Script Frenzy info to the site, as a lot of us participate in that as well.

Hopefully I"ll get more people added to the authors page soon. If you have any suggestions for the resources page, or new dares that you think should be added, please let me know.

Nanostew.net is live!

The site is up and open for visitors. Please bear with me as things will be getting tweaked and more author info will be added. Feel free to comment here or drop me an email and let me know what you think of the site. It's nothing major or fancy, but it was fun to put together.

If you have ideas, comments, questions, etc. - don't be afraid to contact me, or someone else in the group. We're all nice and will answer any questions to the best of our ability.

I do plan on adding a page for the Nano Dares. Also, I can add some of the other Nano tools, like the lists of names and the plot suggestions by scanning those in and making them available as pdfs. Links to other sites would be good as well, such as random name generators and the like.

To be honest, I need to find my notebook where I wrote down the ideas I had for the site, and then get to working on it some more. Maybe I'll try to hunt up some good links today. Any suggestions are appreciated.
